Hey guys! Thanks for coming back for the second installment of my Luigi's Mansion walkthrough for GameCube. In this post I will be going through the first 5 rooms of the mansion which include the Parlor, the Anteroom, the Wardrobe Room, the Study, and the Master Bedroom.
Last time, we finished the introductory part of the game and the Foyer so we are now ready to begin capturing ghosts and searching for Mario. Here we go!
The Parlor - The Parlor is the room with the double doors at the top of the stairs that we met Professor E. Gadd in.
*Before you go in, you can collect the coins that have appeared at the top of the steps*
When you enter the now permanently unlocked room, you don't have to worry about ghosts yet. Pick up the coins but don't loot the cabinets for cash because you might lose some of the money by starting dialogue too soon. Once you've done that, go stand in front of the portrait with the purple flame candles on either side if it. Make sure you are ready to go because once you start, you can't leave this room until you have captured all of the ghosts. To release the ghosts, simply vacuum out the candles and initiate the small dialogue sequence between the portraits.
The first ghost will be one of the gold Pacman-Ghost looking guys that you saw earlier, (the only kind in this room) and he will appear behind you. Suck him up with your vacuum and wait for the next one to appear.
*You can speed up this process by turning off your flashlight*
This room only has three Gold Ghosts, and once you suck them all up, the lights come on and a chest will appear in the center of the room. Open the chest and pick up the key. It will unlock the door to the Anteroom in the far right corner of the Parlor. Before you leave, be sure to loot the cabinets and suck up the cash before going to unlock the door.
The Anteroom - This room will lock itself with vines as soon as you enter it and will not open until you have captured all 6 ghosts.
The first ghost to appear will be a single Golden Ghost. After that, a new ghost will come called a Pink Puncher Ghost. These guys have 10 more health points than their Golden siblings but they shouldn't be too difficult to handle. After you suck the Pink Puncher up, two more Golden Ghosts will appear together. To make it easier to catch them, scare one away with your flashlight and suck up his buddy before he gets back. Finally, another Golden Ghost and another Pink Puncher will appear at the same time, deal with them to light up the room.
You won't get a chest when you clear this room but you can loot the tables and the chandeliers for cash, coins, a gold bar and health (Sometimes these are randomized so you might get some but not others).
Lootable health in this game, takes the form of a bouncing heart that you have to catch. Different sized hearts give different levels of health. After this, I will only be giving you the specific locations of the 50 pt hearts because their locations can mean life or death for Luigi. Proceed to the door on the left side of the room to enter the Wardrobe Room.
The Wardrobe Room - Before you do anything in this room, be ready to act fast. Don't open any wardrobes until you have cleared out the first 5 ghosts that appear on their own. There is a Blue Money Ghost hiding in a wardrobe in this room and he looks like the Gold Ghosts but won't attack you. He will try to run away so be ready to catch him because when you do, he will drop a ton of cash and gold. If you miss him, he will disappear for good. You might see another one like him later on, but it won't actually be him so you'll lose the money.
*If you open the wardrobe with the Gold Ghost in it first, the room will light up anyway and you will need to come back at a later point in the game to catch the Blue Money Ghost. You will get the chance so don't worry about it right now.*
There is a total of 7 ghosts in this room and it will not lock behind you when you enter.
The first ghost to attack will be a lone Golden Ghost. After that we get another new species, along with another Golden. This new, green, ghost is called a Trash Ghost because of their tendency to drop banana peels everywhere when they appear. They have a health count of 40 and drop a lot of banana peels when you try to suck them up. You can slip and get hurt on the peels so try to clean them up between ghosts. After you suck up those two and clean up the peels, the same pair will appear again.
Now it's time to open the wardrobes. Be ready for the Money Ghost and for the last Golden Ghost hiding in one of the wardrobes. Once you suck them up, you will light up the room. You will hear a jingle sound that is made by a key falling onto the shelf above the clothes on the hangers. Suck it up to grab it.
*There is a door on the left side of the Wardrobe Room and it leads to a balcony where you will find Toad again. Go through the dialogue with him to turn the light on. There isn't anything important out there yet, besides him.*
To save time on getting back to the Foyer, use the mirror trick that I taught you earlier to get back instantly. Now go up the stairs and to the left to use your key on the next door. Before you enter, however, there will be a small dialogue with E. Gadd telling you to prepare for some more difficult ghosts. What he means is that now you will begin capturing Boss Ghosts, starting in the Study.
The Study - The coins in the new hallway will lead to a door, DO NOT OPEN IT! It
is a trick door and will hurt Luigi. You can tell that it's a trick door
because it doesn't have a small rug in front of it like the inhabited
rooms do. You can also check your map and see if there is a door in
front of where you are standing.
The Study is the first door in the hallway after you use your key. It is unlocked and only contains one ghost, Neville. Be on your guard though, because the books on the shelves will launch themselves at you until you turn the lights on.
To catch Neville, you have to expose his heart. For a clue about how to do this, you can scan his heart when he is sitting in his chair and he will say something to you. To make him expose his heart, simply turn your back to him until he yawns and stretches, now is your chance to suck him up! Neville's health count is 100 so it might take you a few tries.
He will drop pearls as he is trying to run away from you so you can try to pick those up while you are bringing his health down but be careful because he will likely drop a Poisonous Mushroom as well. The bosses tend to drop these and they shrink Luigi, causing the Poultergust to be unusable and Luigi to lose health. They bounce around at random so be cautious when they appear. Finish capturing Neville to light up the room and make a chest appear with the key to your next Boss.
If you select the bookshelves, each one has some interesting information about the mansion and its various inhabitants. Remember to loot the room and the chandelier before continuing on to the end of the hall and to the Master Bedroom.
The Master Bedroom - Lidia's door is at the end of the hallway. Lidia is the only ghost in this room and has a health count of 100. She is Neville's wife and can be found brushing her hair at the vanity table. To expose her heart, vacuum the curtains open on the right side and suck her up when she looks surprised.
*I've always found that the best way to suck up these Boss Ghosts is to back yourself into a corner while you are whittling down their health and move the analog stick back and forth to speed it up.*
Be careful when you are looting the room after you catch her because from now on there will occasionally be a poisonous mushroom in the drawers and cabinets when you open them for the first time. Often you can come back later and check again to get the actual loot. Make sure you get the ceiling fan before you go. Spin it really fast with your vacuum and it will release a lot of cash. The chest that appears will contain another key for another time.
