Luigi's Mansion: Nursery - Fortune-Teller's Room

Hello again my lovely readers and welcome to the third installment of my Luigi's Mansion Walkthrough. This post will take us from through the next five rooms in our journey to find Mario and will include: The Nursery, a Bathroom, the Ballroom, the Storage Room and the Fortune-Teller's Room. Last time, we ended in the Master Bedroom after sucking up our second Boss Ghost, Lidia. Here we go!

The Nursery - There will be a small cut-scene as you leave the Master Bedroom with a creepy baby noise that will point you in the direction of the Nursery. Make your way there and unlock the door.

Inside, you will find Chauncey sleeping in the crib. Collect the coins by the crib on foot, don't suck them up because if you move the rocking horse with your vacuum, it will wake up the baby ghost and essentially invite him to "play". The ceiling light has loot and the drawers by the door have a 50pt heart inside that will re-spawn every time you leave the area (The door at the right end of the hallway). When you are ready to "play" with Chauncey, just move the rocking horse.

Chauncey's idea of playing is a little more painful than your average babies because it involves launching re-spawning teddy bears at you and hitting you over the head with his rattle if you get too close to him. To make the little demon knock it off, simply suck up the beach ball that's by the crib and aim it at him before releasing the R button. It stops his attack but unfortunately, it also sets off a ghost baby temper tantrum.

Chauncey casts a spell that shrinks Luigi down and traps him in the crib. There is no way out of the crib once you are in it until you defeat Chauncey. He starts off by throwing rocking horses at you and the first two are pretty easy to dodge, if you keep moving. After the rocking horses have failed, Chauncey unleashes the beach balls. The bounce around the crib until they fade away, leaving one behind. Suck the lone beach ball up and, like earlier, throw it back at Chauncey to reveal his heart.

Chauncey somehow has a way to block the Poltergust3000 after a short time so it will take a few tries to capture him. After you fail to capture him, he will belly flop a lap around the crib so try to stay out of his way in the middle.

The second round of rocking horses should be just one before another round of beach balls. It usually takes me three tries to capture Chauncey so if you don't get him the second time, you definitely will on the third. The final round of rocking horses is a bit different because after throwing two lone horses at you, Chauncey throws two at once. Stand in the middle of the crib to dodge these.

After that its all the same until you capture him. Doing so will take you back to Chauncey's room where a large gold chest will appear by the door. Open it to receive the pretty pink key that signifies your ability to move on to Area 2. This will also trigger a cut-scene with E. Gadd that will take you back to the lab to empty out your poltergust3000, something that happens after each area is cleared. Watch the short clip of E. Gadd trapping the ghosts back their paintings again and then you get to see how much money you have collected so far.

*If you didn't catch the money ghost it will probably be closer to 5 million G at this point.*

After you are done, return to the mansion and we will enter Area 2 so that we can go to Bathroom #1.

Bathroom #1 - To find this room, take your pretty pink key and finally find out what's behind the thorny doors in the Foyer. Approach the doors to clear the vines away. Take a right once you enter and then head forward down the first hallway you come to (the main hallway of area 2). Ghost Mice and Ghost Bats that can hurt Luigi if they touch him will be patrolling the hallway and they will always re-spawn within seconds (The mice will) so dont bother sucking them up.

*However, if you hear a little trill, run for the main hallway in whatever area you are in because it means that a Money Mouse is scurrying down the hallway and you need to catch it before it reaches the end. Money Mice are gold and carry Silver diamonds that are very valuable in the game. Money Mice only appear if the hallway is dark and they never re-spawn.*

At the end of the main hallway, hang a left until you can go forward again. The door on the far left is your destination. Watch out for the yellow Bowling Ghost that may appear, they are endlessly re-spawning so they have 0 health points but they like to bowl things at you that will hurt Luigi. There are also pink Ceiling Surprises (0 health, don't hurt you) and Purple Bombers (0 health, drop bombs) that will pop-up in the hallways from now on, they re-spawn as soon as you leave the area.

Enter Bathroom #1 and meet some new ghosts. These Grabbers are a light pink color but their species will change colors throughout the game. They also wont hurt you in this room but everywhere else that you see them, their "hugs" will hurt Luigi. There are only two of them but they attack at the same time and will try to grab Luigi from behind. If they catch you, wiggle your analog stick back and forth to shake them off before stunning them with your flashlight. They only have 10 health points so if you can scare one off while you catch its partner, they are relatively easy to suck up.

After catching them you will light up the room. E. Gadd will then contact you again about how to deal with Grabbers and after he is finished you can retrieve the key from the shelf to the left. This key will lead you to the door on the right side of the main hallway and the Ballroom.

The Ballroom - In this room you will find another new species of ghost, the Shy Guys. Like the Grabbers, they come in different colors but they are a bit harder to catch. There are three pairs of Shy Guys in the Ballroom and to catch them, you need to vacuum up their face masks before you can hit them with your flashlight. They like floating in pairs in this room so if you start capturing one, the other will keep trying to attack you. The best way to go about it is to vacuum up both of their masks at once and let one of them get away. If they do get away from you, you will need to steal their mask again when they reappear.

After you capture the 6 Shy Guys, the Floating Whirlindas will appear floating across the dance floor. You expose their conjoined heart by standing with your back to them on the spinning floor platforms until the man cries out and they strike a pose. Suck them up to light up the room and receive the key to the storage room located in the far right corner of the Ballroom.

*Remember to loot the light fixtures in this room before you leave.*

The Storage Room - In this room there are 2 Pink Punchers and 2 red Grabbers, all with 20 health points.

*There is also a Money Ghost hiding in the chair LEAVE IT FOR NOW!! You will have a better chance to catch it later in the game so dont touch the chair until you have turned the lights on.*

Suck up the ghosts to light up the room and then loot the light fixture. Now look at the mirror, you will see something peculiar about the wall behind you, use your scanner if you want to get a better look at it. Walk up to the wall behind you and press A to push the big red button that says "Don't Push!" And Voila! You have a room twice the size that it was when you found it and a mysterious trap door in the floor.

*The trill that you heard after the wall moved is the same sound that a Money Mouse makes when it first appears.*

Go over to the Danger! poster on the wall and suck it up with your vacuum. Oh look, another big red button to push! Press the button and let all hell break loose on the mansion. You have now officially let loose 50 Boo ghosts and the main antagonist of this game. You get a call from E. Gadd and he tells you that the Boos are the ones who freed the Boss Ghosts or "Painting Ghosts" as they are often called. He also tells you that King Boo has been keeping them all hidden and that it was pretty dumb for you to press the big red button and let them all out.

He then takes you back to the lab and assumes that it was the Boos who took Mario and that you have to recapture all 50 of them to weaken their power in numbers. His next bit of trivia is about the Boo Radar on your Gameboy Horror, it can detect whether or not a Boo is in whatever room you are exploring.

*Unlike regular ghosts, Boos hide in well lit rooms and that is the only place that you can find them. They also don't get stuck in the Poltergust3000's stream like the other ghosts do, you need to follow them with your analog stick to lower their health points (which go down considerably faster than a regular ghosts as a result). The light on the Boo Radar is blue if no Boo is present, yellow if there is and it goes from yellow to flashing red and beeping the closer you get to a hidden Boo. If a Boo gets away, it flies through the wall and into another room or hallway where it can be found in the open until a certain amount of time has passed. Boos sometimes lay traps that the Boo Radar picks up as a Boo but may just be a bomb or giant ping-pong ball.*

Unfortunately, all this means that you need to go back to all of the rooms that you have previously cleared to find the hidden Boos. I recommend doing this now because it will make your life a lot easier further down the road. Start with Area 1 and work your way back through Area 2. After you have done that, we can continue on into the Fortune-Teller's Room.

Fortune-Teller's Room - This room can be found in Area 2 but only after you have captured your first 5 Boos (If you went back, you should have 8). E. Gadd will contact you and suggest that you splash some water on your face in the Washroom, located next to Bathroom #1. On your way there you may notice the ghost of the Butler wandering back and forth with a candlestick. Don't worry about him right now, you cant catch him until later on.

The Washroom is another Toad room so agree to help him out, listen to all of his toilet puns and then you will light up the room. Loot the toilet for the key to the Fortune-Teller's Room.

Head down the hall again and enter the room shown on your map. Go ahead and look the drawers now because this room will always be a safe place to be. When you are ready, shine your flashlight on the crystal ball until Madame Clairvoya appears. You can ask her who she is and she will tell you that she can read people's vibrations and energies from lost objects. Otherwise she has no valuable information or use until later on in the game.

Well, that's it for this installment, hope you guys had fun and will be back for the next round when we meet the crusty old butler who loves the beautiful pianist and the glutton who literally ate himself to death. See you next time! Game on!

Luigi's Mansion: Parlor - Master Bedroom

Hey guys! Thanks for coming back for the second installment of my Luigi's Mansion walkthrough for GameCube. In this post I will be going through the first 5 rooms of the mansion which include the Parlor, the Anteroom, the Wardrobe Room, the Study, and the Master Bedroom.

Last time, we finished the introductory part of the game and the Foyer so we are now ready to begin capturing ghosts and searching for Mario. Here we go!

The Parlor - The Parlor is the room with the double doors at the top of the stairs that we met Professor E. Gadd in.

*Before you go in, you can collect the coins that have appeared at the top of the steps*

When you enter the now permanently unlocked room, you don't have to worry about ghosts yet. Pick up the coins but don't loot the cabinets for cash because you might lose some of the money by starting dialogue too soon. Once you've done that, go stand in front of the portrait with the purple flame candles on either side if it. Make sure you are ready to go because once you start, you can't leave this room until you have captured all of the ghosts. To release the ghosts, simply vacuum out the candles and initiate the small dialogue sequence between the portraits.

The first ghost will be one of the gold Pacman-Ghost looking guys that you saw earlier, (the only kind in this room) and he will appear behind you. Suck him up with your vacuum and wait for the next one to appear.

*You can speed up this process by turning off your flashlight*

This room only has three Gold Ghosts, and once you suck them all up, the lights come on and a chest will appear in the center of the room. Open the chest and pick up the key. It will unlock the door to the Anteroom in the far right corner of the Parlor. Before you leave, be sure to loot the cabinets and suck up the cash before going to unlock the door.

The Anteroom - This room will lock itself with vines as soon as you enter it and will not open until you have captured all 6 ghosts.

The first ghost to appear will be a single Golden Ghost. After that, a new ghost will come called a Pink Puncher Ghost. These guys have 10 more health points than their Golden siblings but they shouldn't be too difficult to handle. After you suck the Pink Puncher up, two more Golden Ghosts will appear together. To make it easier to catch them, scare one away with your flashlight and suck up his buddy before he gets back. Finally, another Golden Ghost and another Pink Puncher will appear at the same time, deal with them to light up the room.

You won't get a chest when you clear this room but you can loot the tables and the chandeliers for cash, coins, a gold bar and health (Sometimes these are randomized so you might get some but not others).

Lootable health in this game, takes the form of a bouncing heart that you have to catch. Different sized hearts give different levels of health. After this, I will only be giving you the specific locations of the 50 pt hearts because their locations can mean life or death for Luigi. Proceed to the door on the left side of the room to enter the Wardrobe Room.

The Wardrobe Room - Before you do anything in this room, be ready to act fast. Don't open any wardrobes until you have cleared out the first 5 ghosts that appear on their own. There is a Blue Money Ghost hiding in a wardrobe in this room and he looks like the Gold Ghosts but won't attack you. He will try to run away so be ready to catch him because when you do, he will drop a ton of cash and gold. If you miss him, he will disappear for good. You might see another one like him later on, but it won't actually be him so you'll lose the money.

*If you open the wardrobe with the Gold Ghost in it first, the room will light up anyway and you will need to come back at a later point in the game to catch the Blue Money Ghost. You will get the chance so don't worry about it right now.*

There is a total of 7 ghosts in this room and it will not lock behind you when you enter.

The first ghost to attack will be a lone Golden Ghost. After that we get another new species, along with another Golden. This new, green, ghost is called a Trash Ghost because of their tendency to drop banana peels everywhere when they appear. They have a health count of 40 and drop a lot of banana peels when you try to suck them up. You can slip and get hurt on the peels so try to clean them up between ghosts. After you suck up those two and clean up the peels, the same pair will appear again.

Now it's time to open the wardrobes. Be ready for the Money Ghost and for the last Golden Ghost hiding in one of the wardrobes. Once you suck them up, you will light up the room. You will hear a jingle sound that is made by a key falling onto the shelf above the clothes on the hangers. Suck it up to grab it.

*There is a door on the left side of the Wardrobe Room and it leads to a balcony where you will find Toad again. Go through the dialogue with him to turn the light on. There isn't anything important out there yet, besides him.*

To save time on getting back to the Foyer, use the mirror trick that I taught you earlier to get back instantly. Now go up the stairs and to the left to use your key on the next door. Before you enter, however, there will be a small dialogue with E. Gadd telling you to prepare for some more difficult ghosts. What he means is that now you will begin capturing Boss Ghosts, starting in the Study.

The Study - The coins in the new hallway will lead to a door, DO NOT OPEN IT! It is a trick door and will hurt Luigi. You can tell that it's a trick door because it doesn't have a small rug in front of it like the inhabited rooms do. You can also check your map and see if there is a door in front of where you are standing.

The Study is the first door in the hallway after you use your key. It is unlocked and only contains one ghost, Neville. Be on your guard though, because the books on the shelves will launch themselves at you until you turn the lights on.

To catch Neville, you have to expose his heart. For a clue about how to do this, you can scan his heart when he is sitting in his chair and he will say something to you. To make him expose his heart, simply turn your back to him until he yawns and stretches, now is your chance to suck him up! Neville's health count is 100 so it might take you a few tries.

He will drop pearls as he is trying to run away from you so you can try to pick those up while you are bringing his health down but be careful because he will likely drop a Poisonous Mushroom as well. The bosses tend to drop these and they shrink Luigi, causing the Poultergust to be unusable and Luigi to lose health. They bounce around at random so be cautious when they appear. Finish capturing Neville to light up the room and make a chest appear with the key to your next Boss.

If you select the bookshelves, each one has some interesting information about the mansion and its various inhabitants. Remember to loot the room and the chandelier before continuing on to the end of the hall and to the Master Bedroom.

The Master Bedroom - Lidia's door is at the end of the hallway. Lidia is the only ghost in this room and has a health count of 100. She is Neville's wife and can be found brushing her hair at the vanity table. To expose her heart, vacuum the curtains open on the right side and suck her up when she looks surprised.

*I've always found that the best way to suck up these Boss Ghosts is to back yourself into a corner while you are whittling down their health and move the analog stick back and forth to speed it up.*

Be careful when you are looting the room after you catch her because from now on there will occasionally be a poisonous mushroom in the drawers and cabinets when you open them for the first time. Often you can come back later and check again to get the actual loot. Make sure you get the ceiling fan before you go. Spin it really fast with your vacuum and it will release a lot of cash. The chest that appears will contain another key for another time.

Well, that's it for this post, I'll post the next installment soon and you'll get to experience what happens when Ghost Babies Attack! :O Hahaha Hope to see you guys soon! Game on!

Luigi's Mansion: Introduction

Hey all! This is the first of many Luigi's Mansion Walkthroughs (for GameCube) that I will try to update as often as possible. I've been playing this game for about 13 years now (holy shit!), ever since I was a small child of six going to daycare on the eastern side of Gresham.

It comes with fond memories and by now acts as a source of relaxation in a stress filled college life so I thought that it was finally time to pay tribute to an amazing game and add my own Luigi's Mansion walkthrough to the world.

I'm going to start easy with just a quick run down of the controls and the story. Here we go!

Controls (Standard):

Move - Analog Stick
Rotate Luigi - C Stick
Jump - N/A
Investigate/ Open Things and Doors - A
Turn Off Flashlight - Hold Down B
Look Around With Scanner - X
Scan Something - Press X to open the scanner and then press A to scan something
Map - Y
Move Around Map - Press Y and then use the C Stick to move the camera
Move up and Down Floors on the Map - Press Y and then use the Analog Stick to switch floors
Check Inventory - Z
Suck Things Up With Vacuum - Hold Down R
Shoot Out Elements With Vacuum - Hold Down L (Click it to shoot a ball of the element)

Controls (Sidestep) - The only difference is that Luigi moves from side to side and you cant rotate him to face another direction.

*You can change the controller settings in the Pause Menu (Start).

Story Line Beginning - The game starts with Luigi walking through a dark forest towards a mansion that he supposedly won in a contest. He enters the mansion and after the camera floats around the room for a bit, this is where the game begins. Luigi starts off with nothing but his flashlight. Here's a video of the intro to the game so you can see what I'm talking about.

Game Introduction - Before you can go start sucking up ghosts, you need to complete the little Introductory part of the game. When you first gain control of Luigi, he's standing in the Foyer of the mansion and there is a door covered in thorny vines in front of you. DON'T TOUCH IT! The thorns will hurt you and take some of your life away (Your life is shown with the red heart beating in the bottom left corner). Instead, go up the stairs to your right or left and try to open the two big doors on the landing.

They wont open because you need the key. To get the key, go back downstairs and pick it up after the ghost makes its appearance and drops it. Now the two big doors will open and you can watch the next little video clip in the game.

Here Luigi meets Professor E. Gadd. He tells Luigi that the mansion just appeared out of nowhere a few days before Luigi showed up and is crawling with ghosts. He then tells Luigi that he saw Mario enter the mansion and that he hasn't returned since. He tells Luigi to go after his brother, after he teaches him to fight and capture ghosts.

Complete the tutorial and learn how to use your new Poltergust3000. The maximum number of ghosts you can catch in the training room is 10. Next, E. Gadd will invite you to the Gallery, here you can see empty paintings on the walls and each one represents a boss ghost that you will have to catch. There isn't anything important about the Gallery so you can either go and look around or decline his offer and get on with the game.

Once you're back at the lab, E. Gadd will ask you where you want to go and you can pick: The Mansion, The Training Room, or The Gallery. Click the Mansion to begin your quest to find Mario. This will place you back in the Foyer and a little to the left you can see Toad crying by the stairs. Go over and speak to him.

He'll tell you that Princess Peach sent him and asks you to help him find Mario. Say "Leave it to me!" and he'll become all happy and from then on, will become a save point for you to use whenever you need one.

You'll also notice that the lights in the room will come on after you talk to him, this is a sign that the room is safe and no ghosts will appear or hurt you. Every time you clear a room in the mansion of all of its ghosts, the lights will come on and you can safely look around and travel through it without harm.

A quick thing you can check out while you are in this room is the covered mirror in the right corner by the stairs. Pull the cover off with your vacuum, enter your scanner mode and take a scan of the mirror. The room will pin around and you will find yourself back in the center of the room.

REMEMBER THIS!!

Every time you scan a mirror in the mansion, it will return you safely back to the Foyer, so keep this in mind when you are stuck in a room with no door or a room with enemies that have lowered your health to a dangerous level. It is a great way to keep yourself from getting lost and an easy way to stay safe when you really need to heal.

Well, that's it for this post! My next one should be up soon and it will contain the walkthroughs for the first five rooms you will be traveling through in the mansion. Hope to see you guys again soon! Game on!
